The numbers
Three numbers, to scale.
Free words a day, and what Pro costs by the month and by the year. Each bar is drawn against the larger of the pair.
The other side
Where DripWriter is better
It keeps your formatting.
Bold, headings, lists, tables, images and headers land in the Doc as you set them. TrickleType types plain text key by key, so you format afterwards.
Pick DripWriter if the layout has to arrive finished. No monthly word cap on Pro.
DripWriter Pro has no daily limit. TrickleType Pro stops at 100,000 words a month.
Pick DripWriter if you type more than 100,000 words a month.Every paid run is server-side.
On Pro and Day Pass, a run carries on with the laptop shut. TrickleType does that only with Pro’s cloud typing, which is in beta.
Pick DripWriter if nearly every run you start is meant to finish while the laptop is closed.A one-day option.
The $8 Day Pass gives 24 hours with no subscription. TrickleType has no day pass.
Pick DripWriter if you need one heavy day and nothing after it.Typing hours and a “done” email.
Pro and Day Pass can limit typing to hours you choose (Work Window), and any plan can email you when a run ends.
Pick DripWriter if you want a run to type only between, say, 9 and 5.
If none of those is the deciding factor, the free plan is where they differ most: 250 words a day and a Google sign-in on DripWriter, against 1,000 words a day and no sign-in on TrickleType.
Our side
Where TrickleType is better
4× the free words.
1,000 a day against 250, with the same one-hour runs.
No Google sign-in to type.
TrickleType types into the Doc you have open, from your own browser, so it never asks for access to your Google account. Only the optional cloud typing on Pro connects Google, and then only to the Docs you pick. DripWriter signs in with Google on every plan, with offline access to the files it writes to.
Any Doc, any day.
On Free, DripWriter writes into a Doc you already have only during your first 3 days. TrickleType always types where your cursor is.
Finishes when you said.
Every keystroke is planned against the clock, so the last word lands at the time you picked. DripWriter says its runs usually take 10–15% longer.
Your draft stays on your device.
In a tab, the text never leaves your browser. DripWriter processes it on its servers on every plan.
Less than half the monthly price.
Pro is $6.99 a month against $15 (checked 31 October 2026). Yearly is $39.99 against $108. There is a $79.99 pay-once option, which DripWriter doesn’t offer.
A refund if it isn’t for you.
7 days, by email. DripWriter’s terms say all sales are final apart from verified malfunctions.

Questions
DripWriter: questions people ask
Is DripWriter free?
Yes, with limits. DripWriter’s free plan types 250 words a day, in runs of up to an hour, one run at a time. Each run’s word cap depends on the length you pick, and text past the cap is dropped. Writing into a Google Doc you already have works only for your first 3 days; after that, Free creates a new Doc. Pro ($15 a month or $108 a year) removes the daily limit. (pricing, FAQ, checked 31 October 2026)
Does DripWriter work with Word?
No. DripWriter writes only into Google Docs. You can paste text from Word into its editor, and it then types it into a Google Doc (FAQ). TrickleType also types only into Google Docs, but it can open a .docx file and type its text (without the formatting). For Word itself: Dripwriter Origin, an unrelated free extension, says it works in Word on the web but not in desktop Word.
Is there a free DripWriter alternative?
Yes. TrickleType types 1,000 words a day into Google Docs for free, with no Google sign-in.
DripWriter vs Dripwriter Origin: are they the same?
No. DripWriter (dripwriter.com) is a paid web app. Dripwriter Origin (dripwriter.org) is a separate free browser extension by a different developer, and it states it isn’t affiliated with DripWriter. See the note on the names above.
Does DripWriter keep typing when you close the tab?
On Pro and Day Pass, yes: DripWriter’s features page says “Close the tab, switch apps, or shut the laptop”. On Free, DripWriter’s own pages disagree. The pricing page says background drips work “across all plans” and continue “even if you close the tab”. The FAQ says that on Free “your drip continues only while the Dripwriter tab stays open; if you close or sleep your device, it pauses”. TrickleType’s free plan keeps typing with the Doc tab in the background, but not with Chrome closed or the laptop shut. Its Pro cloud typing (beta) carries on.
