    Privacy Policy

    Effective: September 4, 2026

    Introduction

Critters ("we", "our", or "us") is a Chrome extension that puts pixel pets on the pages you visit. This policy explains exactly what the extension stores, what it sends, and who receives it. It is short because the extension does very little with your data.

    What we do not collect

There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking of any kind.

    • We never see which websites you visit or what is on them. The pets run locally in your browser.
    • We do not use any third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
    • All artwork is drawn in code. No images are loaded from any server, so nothing can be tracked through them.

    Settings stored on your device

Your chosen pets, Gremlin mode and other preferences are saved with chrome.storage. If you are signed into Chrome, Chrome may sync those settings across your devices under your Google account; that sync is handled by Google and never passes through us.

    • A random install identifier is generated on your device and stored the same way. It is not linked to you, your Google account or your browsing.
    • If you buy Critters Pro, your license key is stored here too so the extension can check it.

When the extension makes a network request

The extension talks to the internet in exactly three situations, and never otherwise.

    • License activation and validation. When you paste a Pro key, and periodically afterwards, the extension sends the license key and a short device label such as "Chrome on Mac" to Dodo Payments (live.dodopayments.com) to confirm the key is valid and count it against the 5-browser limit. Nothing about your browsing is included. This never happens on the free tier.
    • Uninstall survey. If you remove Critters, Chrome opens an optional feedback page on tailsgate.com. If you answer, the chosen reason, any free text you type, the extension version, the random install identifier and a hashed, truncated form of your IP address (used only for rate limiting, the original address is not kept) are sent to our Cloudflare Worker. Closing the tab sends no answer.
    • Payment. Checkout for Critters Pro happens entirely on Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. Your payment details go to Dodo, not to us, and are covered by the Dodo Payments privacy policy. We receive the license key and the email address it was issued to so we can help with support.

    Who processes data

Two third parties are involved. There are no others.

    • Dodo Payments: payment processing, license issuing and license validation.
    • Cloudflare: hosts the Worker and storage that receive the optional uninstall survey.

    Permissions explained

    Critters requests only two permissions.

    • storage: saves your settings, the random install identifier and, on Pro, your license key.
    • alarms: schedules the periodic license check so it does not have to run constantly.
    • The pets appear on pages through a content script. It draws the pets in a separate layer over the page and does not read, record or send page content.

    Changes to this policy

If Critters ever starts doing more with data than described here, we will update this page and say so clearly in the extension.
