1. Accepting these terms

By installing or using highl8te, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, uninstall the extension.

2. The extension is free

highl8te costs nothing. There is no subscription, no paid tier, and no payment processing in the extension. You do not need an account.

3. Explanations are AI-generated and can be wrong

Explanations come from a small AI model running on your device. Small models make mistakes. They can misread context, state things confidently that are false, and produce explanations that sound right but are not.

Treat every explanation as a rough first pass, not a source of truth. Do not rely on highl8te for medical, legal, financial, safety, or other consequential decisions. Check a proper source.

4. No warranty

THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tailsgate is not liable for any damages arising from your use of highl8te, including any decision you make based on an explanation it produced.

5. Acceptable use

Use highl8te for reading and understanding text. Do not:

• •decompile, reverse-engineer, or repackage the extension, except where law expressly permits it;
• •redistribute it as your own or sell it;
• •modify it to attack, deceive, or harm other people or sites;
• •use it to break the law or to violate the terms of the sites you visit.

6. Dictionary data and attribution

Definition data comes from Open English WordNet 2025, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). That attribution is required, and it is given here and in the extension. If you reuse that data yourself, you must attribute Open English WordNet under the same licence. See https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.

7. Our code

The highl8te extension's own source code, interface, name, and branding belong to Tailsgate. The CC BY 4.0 licence covers the WordNet data, not our code.

8. Chrome and the on-device model

highl8te depends on Chrome and on Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano model. Availability of that model is controlled by Google, not by us. If Chrome changes or removes it, parts of highl8te may stop working, and that is outside our control.

9. The tip jar

The tip jar at https://buymemomo.com/aarohan is entirely voluntary. A tip buys nothing: no features, no support, no priority, no license. Because it purchases nothing, there is nothing to refund. Payments there are handled by BuyMeMomo under their own terms and privacy policy, not ours.

10. Changes and discontinuation

We may update highl8te, change how it works, or stop offering it at any time. We may also update these terms; the "Last updated" date will change when we do. Continuing to use highl8te after an update means you accept the revised terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
